This post is based primarily on Don's notes, occasionally supplemented with MT's notes from our cruise in November 2022. When information from other sources is added—for further explanation to readers or to satisfy our own curiosity—that is set off in a text box (as this one).
Most of the photos that accompany this post are from Don’s camera (with a caption indicating the time it was taken); those from MT’s iPhone are indicated by “MT” placed at the beginning of the photo caption. The Viking Daily newsletter showed today's weather forecast as "Cloudy/Sunny Changes for Rain 78° F."
We woke at 6:30 am and went to the World Café (Deck 7) at 7 am for breakfast, which we ate on the Aquavit Terrace, outside at the aft end of Deck 7.
From 8:19 to 9:19, we walked around the jogging path on Deck 2.
At 9:30, we went to the Star Theater (Deck 2 forward) for an entertaining talk about Teddy Roosevelt and the Panama Canal.
The
Viking Daily newsletter invited us to a Guest Lecture with General (Ret.)
Joseph Shaefer: “The Unstoppable Force Meets the Impossible Project.” “Meet
one dynamic man and the folly of connecting two great oceans—Panama Canal, meet
Teddy Roosevelt.”
At 12:15 pm, we went to Team Trivia at the Explorers' Lounge (Deck 7). Paired up with Dave and Liz from Scotland, we won with 14 our of 15 correct answers.
MT Saturday, November 19, 12:41 PM - Viking Star: Don, MT, Liz, and Dave celebrating our win with mimosas.
At 3:00 pm, we went to the Star Theater (Deck 2) for the "Future Travel Presentation" about 2023-24 ocean voyages.
On our way to dinner, we caught a glimpse of brewing weather outside.
5:56 PM - Viking Star: view of stormy sky, from window to jogging path on Deck 2 near the Restaurant.
6:01 PM - Viking Star: view of stormy sky, from window to jogging path on Deck 2 near the Restaurant (mild telephoto 42 mm).
6:02 PM - Viking Star: view of stormy sky, from window to jogging path on Deck 2 near the Restaurant (mild telephoto 42 mm).
At 6 pm, we went to The Restaurant (Deck 2) for our pre-ordered dinner.
At
our first evening meal on this cruise, we had informed the waiter and chef
about Don’s allergy to ginger. After that, they started sending us a
menu in advance for The Restaurant (no reservations required) so both of us
could order in advance and avoid anything with ginger. When we had reserved dinner at one of the specialty restaurants
(Chef’s Table or Manfredi’s), they also knew about the allergy and would
substitute an alternative without ginger.
At 8:30 pm, we went to the Explorers' Lounge (Deck 7) for "Name That Tune Trivia." Don knew only one song, but not the artist. MT did a little better.
At 9:30 pm, we watched the Port Talk for Cozumel on the TV in out stateroom.
