27 NOV 22 At Sea

This post is based primarily on Don's notes, occasionally supplemented with MT's notes from our cruise in November 2022. When information from other sources is added—for further explanation to readers or to satisfy our own curiosity—that is set off in a text box (as this one).
Most of the photos that accompany this post are from Don’s camera (with a caption indicating the time it was taken); those from MT’s iPhone are indicated by “MT” placed at the beginning of the photo caption. Photos from any other source (such as the public domain Wikimedia Commons), occasionally used for clarification, indicate that source in the caption.

The Viking Daily newsletter showed today's weather forecast as "Clouded Thunder Clouds 82° F" and "Sunrise: 6:22 AM."

We woke around 6:30 am.

MT Sunday, ‎August ‎27, ‎2022, ‏‎6:27 AM - Caribbean Sea: sunrise.

At 7 am, we got room service breakfast, with rain.

The Viking Daily newsletter described today’s “Cruise the Caribbean Sea” as follows:
“Fed by the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean is among the largest of Earth’s seas. This vast body of water covers nearly 1.1 million square miles and boasts a depth of approximately 25,000 feet below sea level at its deepest point in the Cayman Trench. Cradled by Central and South Americas, the Caribbean is bound[ed] by the Yucatán Channel in the north and the arc of the Antilles islands in the east. Got centuries, these historic waters have called the adventurous heart with it promises of riches. And it all began with the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492, opening the door to an era of colonization—first by Spain, then successively by the English, French and Dutch.”

At 8:15-9:30, Don went to Jogging Track (Deck 2) to run, but the track was closed "due to wind" and recent rain.

So Don went to the Fitness Center (Deck 1 forward) and used the treadmill and recumbent bike. Through the window, he could see large waves breaking over the forward end of the ship and often splashing higher than the window, which would have reached the Jogging Track on Deck 2.

At 10:15, we went to the "Card Games & Board Games" in Manfredi's restaurant (Deck 2) listed in the Viking daily newsletter. We played dominos using the double-12 set of tiles for Mexican Train Dominos, for which the rules sheets were only in Norwegian and possibly other Nordic languages.

MT 10:41 AM - Viking Star: MT with dominos.

MT 10:45 AM - Viking Star: MT with rules for Mexican Train Dominos.

Then we watched the end of the "Baggo Challenge" (Baggo is British name for Corn Hole) in the Atrium (Deck 1), listed in the Viking Daily newsletter for 10:30 for "Entertainment Team, Ship's Officers and Fellow Guests."

MT 11:19 AM - Viking Star: view, from our balcony, of large waves breaking over the bow, with Deck 2 Jogging Track below.

At 11:30, we went to the Pool Grill (Deck 7) for our habitual lunch of seared ahi tuna, etc.

At noon, we went to the World Café (Deck 2) for gelato.

At 12:15, we went to the Explorers' Lounge (Deck 7) for Team Trivia.

Then we watched the movie Adeline" on the TV in our stateroom.

At 4:30, we went to the Theater (Deck 2) for the Port Talk for Montego Bay, Jamaica.

At 6:30, we went to The Restaurant for our pre-ordered dinner.
